Protecting Our Environment: A Community Commitment

Since its founding in 1979, the Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents Association (GGRA) has been dedicated to preserving and enhancing our local environment. While we remain mindful of global environmental concerns, our primary focus is on protecting and improving our own community.

Through a range of initiatives, we actively work to make a difference, including:

  • Defending the Green Belt – Advocating for the protection of our cherished green spaces.
  • Supporting the Saddleworth Hydro Project – Promoting sustainable energy solutions for our area.
  • Street Scene Greenfield Group (SSGG) Litter Picks – Keeping our streets and public spaces clean.
  • Canal Towpath Clean-ups – Ensuring our waterways remain beautiful and accessible.
  • Tree Watch Group – Monitoring and safeguarding local trees.
  • Planning and Development Oversight – Keeping a watchful eye on new projects to ensure responsible growth.
  • Traffic and Infrastructure Advocacy – Addressing community concerns about road safety and congestion.

These efforts are made possible by the dedication of GGRA members and our partner groups, including Street Scene Greenfield and Love Lydgate. We also collaborate with local businesses and key organizations such as the Canal & River Trust, United Utilities, Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council (OMBC), and Saddleworth Parish Council.

Together, we are not just preserving our heritage—we are actively shaping a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future for Greenfield and Grasscroft.
