CANAL PROJECT DAY 9th June

The meeting point for this week's project day will be at 10am at Hall's Lock off Hall's Way, Greenfield. If you're arriving by car access is from Wellington Road.

Equipment will be provided but please weather clothing and footwear suitable for the weather conditions on the day.

For the next few months we'll be concentrating on our newly adopted stretch between Hall's Lock and Uppermill and Canal & River Trust (CRT) will arrange for delivery of stone along the towpath to cut down on the distance we have to move it by wheel barrow.  This is a well used section of the towpath and with the forthcoming summer events in the area it would be great to improve the condition of the path for residents and visitors.

Last week we had a meeting with Nick Atkinson of CRT to discuss future plans for the group and have agreed the following:
  • Ongoing planned preventative maintenance to lock gates - oiling mechanism and annual painting.
  • Repairing damaged washwall at Well-i-Hole - during August CRT will commit to providing support over several weeks to start these works assisted by volunteers from our team. I will let you have more information on this once the dates are finalised.
  • Training of volunteers on use of the whacker plate and power barrow.
  • Replacement of fencing between canal and river near Uppermill - again assisting CRT staff to complete this work.
We hope you can join us tomorrow but if this week is not convenient for you we also have the following dates planned:
