Street Scene Greenfield Group is a sub Group of Greenfield & Grasscroft Residents Association. It was formed in January 2009 with the initial aim of generally “tidying up” the area and giving the village of Greenfield an identity rather than just being a corridor for visitors driving through to Uppermill or Dove Stone reservoir.
Since inception, the Group has worked hard to fulfil its objectives and some of the many projects/improvements have included:
Quarterly community litter picks organised and hundreds of bags of rubbish collected over the years.
Installation of a village heritage sign, purchased by funds raised by the Group.
Installation of a raised flower bed.
Obsolete development signs removed from lamp posts.
Street and road signs cleaned.
Planting a living Christmas tree which is now the centrepiece for an annual “lighting up” ceremony attended by several hundred people including the local school children. This was also purchased by funds raised by the Group.
Installation and erection of a splendid “Welcome to Greenfield” planter on Manchester Road.
Extensive improvements still continue to the canal tow path, which has resulted in the Group being awarded the Manchester and Pennine Volunteer Group of the Year award.
